The Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS) has awarded a Kids College Grant to West Jasper Elementary School.  WJS Principal Rita Pilling received confirmation of the grant award in late November, 2009.  

Walker High School senior Kristen Mosley left Jasper a little more than a week ago to represent Walker County in the Alabama Junior Miss Competition in Montgomery.  On January 16, 2010, she won the title of Alabama's Junior Miss.  Along with the title, she was awarded a total of $13,600.00 in cash scholarships.

Kristen is the daughter of Jerry and Lynn Mosley.  She performed Beethoven's piano composition, Rondo a Capriccio, Op. 129, for her talent.  Kristen plans to major in political communications. Kristen is the third Walker High School student to win the state title.  Monique Rector and Anna Donaldson also won the title while students at Walker High School.

JCS Teachers of the Year for 2009-2010 have been announced.  JCS Superintendent Dr. Robert Sparkman, JCS Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jean Lollar, and JCS Director of Secondary Schools Darrell Cooper visited schools on Friday, December 11, 2009, to congratulate each Teacher of the Year.

Veteran T.R. Simmons Elementary Principal Jim Clark is set to retire on December 18, 2009.  At a called meeting on December 8, the Jasper City Board of Education named Suzanne Snow as the school's interim principal.
